CJ Steem is a self-taught watercolour artist based near Edmonton, Alberta, where she enjoys a country lifestyle surrounded by the wide-open prairies.
Born and raised in central Alberta, she developed a deep appreciation for the landscapes of the Canadian prairies and the mountains of Alberta and British Columbia.
Drawn to watercolour for its loose, expressive, and often unpredictable nature, she embraces the medium's spontaneity and mystery. She is fascinated by the interplay between water, pigment, paper, timing, and light—elements that require both technical understanding and intuitive decision-making.
CJ's work reflects the scenes and subjects that inspire her most—glimpses of rural Alberta, the people and animals who call it home, and the enduring connection between land, light, and life on the prairies.
Her artwork has been exhibited at Gallery@501 in Strathcona County, the Ponoka Stampede's Visions of the West Art Show, the Calgary Stampede Western Showcase Art Show, and The Cowgirl Gathering Art Show in Fort Worth, Texas, as well as numerous local markets and exhibitions. She has also maintained an active Etsy shop since 2018, sharing her original artwork and prints with collectors across Canada and beyond.
